The ABCs of a Well-Organized Playroom

The ABCs of a Well-Organized Playroom

Megan Deslongchamps

Toys scattered everywhere, bits of crayons on the floor, missing game pieces: that’s the picture that comes to mind when we think of a playroom. By applying these few tips for a tidy playroom, you won’t have to resist the urge to flee the house when it’s time to clean up this space for your little ones.

Start with Sorting

This step is a crucial one. Determine which toys should stay and which should go. If your child refuses to part with a toy they no longer use, place it in a box that will serve as a "treasure chest." Store these toys outside the playroom, and you can decide their fate later. While you're at it, it’s also best to get rid of that old, worn-out sofa to free up space.

Create Distinct Zones

Divide the space into 2 or 3 distinct activity areas, and organize items within their corresponding zones. For example:

Junior Olympics
This is where the fun happens! Start by marking off a floor space where your little athletes can run, jump, dance, and roll their trucks on the ground. If you have a cabinet or bookshelf near this area, use it to store toys and other items that contribute to your little ones’ energy outburst.

The Sweedi house-shaped bookshelf with storage bin will delight children and parents alike with its playful design and large capacity. Use the bottom drawer to hide smaller and less aesthetically pleasing items.

Fine Arts
Designate a space with a table and chairs for coloring, crafting, and any other seated activities. The Crea craft table with storage hutch has been designed to meet all the needs of crafters! Take advantage of this clever piece of furniture to organize your little artist's tools in the multiple spaces this craft table offers, such as closed storage, a drawer, and a paper organizer, making your work more efficient.

In this section, hang your child's drawings and artworks on the wall. If needed, add a shelf to store coloring books, papers, puzzles, and board games. Baskets will help you organize all the materials by category.

This space is reserved for your little performers. Attach hooks to the wall to hang costumes and hats if you have a small space. If you dispose of a larger room, use a coat rack, a large chest, or a wardrobe. Plastic swords and magic wands can be stored in an umbrella stand. Set up a house-shaped storage unit for stuffed animals and toys in a corner of the room to keep plushies and puppets organized. The Sweedi play tent is also a must-have for role-playing games. This little hideaway will help let your kids' imaginations run wild during their performances!

Cleaning up the playroom can seem like a colossal task that would discourage many. By applying these tips, the job will be much easier to accomplish and even more enjoyable. Don’t forget to involve your children!
